In Luke 10:41, we meet Martha, who is so busy trying to serve her guest that she forgets to spend time with him. This story reminds us of our own lives, where we often get caught up in doing good things, but lose sight of what really matters—our connection with Jesus.
Martha’s hard work wasn’t wrong; it came from a place of love. But the issue was her focus. Unlike her sister Mary, who chose to sit and listen to Jesus, Martha was distracted by her tasks. This contrast teaches us an important lesson about our spiritual lives.
In today’s fast-paced world, we often fill our days with “good” activities—things that seem important and necessary. Yet, we need to ask ourselves: are we focusing on the best things? Just like a musician needs to play the right notes to create a beautiful song, we must find a rhythm in our lives that reflects our true priorities.
Many of us find ourselves busy, rushing from one task to another, but feeling something is missing inside. We need to take a step back and consider if we are filling our days with good things while neglecting the best. It’s important to create a life that prioritizes meaningful connections over just being busy.
Carving out time for connection with Jesus is essential for our spiritual growth and fulfillment. It means intentionally setting aside moments in our day to pray, read the Bible, or simply sit in silence and listen. Just like we make time for friends and family, we need to prioritize our relationship with Him. These moments of connection help us recharge and refocus, reminding us of what truly matters.
I really want to connect with Jesus more deeply. I don’t want to be so caught up in the work of ministry that I miss out on spending time with Him. I also don’t want to be so focused on getting ready for church on Sunday that I forget to be the church in everyday moments, like a random Tuesday at the coffee shop.
When we take the time to be still and connect with Jesus, we can better balance our actions with our faith. Let’s choose to be present, not just in church activities, but in every moment. By doing this, we can find a better rhythm in our lives—one that blends our service with our relationship with Jesus, leading us to a more fulfilling experience.
