A young man decided to join the police force. As a recruit, he was asked during the exam, “What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?”
He answered, “Call for backup.”
We all need to call for backup from time to time. We weren’t created to do life – let alone recovery – on our own. A lone sheep is a dead sheep. The opposite of addiction is connection.
You get the point.
Paul said, “Bear one another’s burdens”(Galatians 6:2). Why did Paul say that? Maybe it was because even he, the great leader of the Christian movement, needed the support of others. That’s why he had Barnabas. And Silas. And Timothy. And Luke. And John Mark. And many more.
There are days in your recovery when you don’t really need anyone else to stay sober. But there are more days when you do. That’s why you need to always have someone ready for backup.
Who would you call for back up?
